Abbey O.L.V. from Nazareth (Brecht-BE) proposes new TRAPP-line

It all began in 1950, when thirteen sisters from Soleilmont entered the new monastery in Brecht, built at the initiative of the Westmalle monks and with their assistance. The new community grew quickly and the sisters were looking for an economic activity to support themselves, since the Rule of St. Benedict states that we are only truly monks when we live by the work of our hands. Dishwashing detergent, produced entirely in the monastery, was marketed beginning in 1964. This was quickly supplemented with floor soap, bubble bath, and shampoo. Many hospitals and institutions in Flanders were run by religious who supported the sisters by purchasing their maintenance supplies and personal care products from Brecht. This changed as the years went by, and our customer database has evolved to include primarily stores and direct customer sales.

New House style: TRAPP

We designed a new house style:  the black and white character of our habit, by which we are immediately recognized, was a guiding principle and holds a central place.

We received the French quality logo “Monastic,” awarded to monastic communities which give form to their economic endeavors in an authentic manner, with monastic values holding a primary place.  Because of this, we can guarantee that the new products are truly monastic products.

The new products encompass three lines:  a lavender line;  an aloë vera line;  and a line of traditional favorites.  All are sold in small bottles and one-liter refill packages.

new product: shampoo with trappistbeer!

The pearl of the project is a completely new product which we have kept secret.

Today we are launching a new shampoo on the market, with very original Trappist characteristics.  We present to you a Trappist Beer Shampoo made with 10% Westmalle Dubbel.  Traditionally, beer was always brewed by women;  it was part of their housework.  In the course of the centuries, the monks have taken over this work;  and now the sisters want to tie back in to this lovely tradition in an original way by using Trappist beer to make shampoo.  We had the Meurice Institute ( a specialized institute in Brussels) do a study for us, and they provided a scientifically substantiated file with all the benefits beer provides for skin and hair – it's all about the polyphenols in beer, the trace elements, the minerals, and the vitamins.  The shampoo has a light conditioning effect and is really a delight to use.  It's also lightly perfumed, so you don't feel like you've just washed your hair with beer!
